About Kimihia
I carry the stories of my Samoan ancestors from Siumu, resting on the gentle outskirts of Falealili, where the villages of Saleilua, Malaemalu, Sapunaoa, Siuniu, and Salesatele sit in quiet conversation with the land. My lineage stretches to Falefa on the northeast shores of Upolu, to Vaivai, the highest peak that watches over our island, and to the Vaisigano river whose waters journey toward Siumu, binding our people through currents older than memory.
From Aotearoa, my grounding flows from the sacred slopes of Taupiri and the steady breath of the Waikato River. I stand within the embrace of Waikato‑Maniapoto, carrying the strength and guidance of Ngāti Apakura, Nga Toko Toru, Ngāti Kotara, and Ngāti Tamainupō. Their voices shape my steps, their histories steady my hands, their resilience threads itself through the way I lead and serve.
These genealogies ocean‑born and river‑carried meet within me. They shape my practice as a weaving of Samoan and Māori worlds, guiding me to walk with integrity, to honour connection, and to move through my work with strength and authenticity.
I am Kimihia Opetaia.
A clinical nurse and visionary leader dedicated to mentoring, cultural safety, and health equity.
Grounded in both Maori and Samoan whakapapa, I bring Indigenous values into every aspect of my mahi, guiding others to grow, lead, and thrive in ways that honour tradition, ancestry, and innovation.
With experience across hospital and community health settings, I have expertise in person-centred care, transformative innovation, and kaupapa Maori practice.
Training in approaches such as Bicultural Supervision, Mahi a Atua, and Mahi Wairua has deepened my understanding of cultural traditions and strengthened my ability to mentor others in culturally competent, empowering care.
A key strength is building and sustaining relationships of trust, empowering whānau (families),
Aiga (extended families), and colleagues alike.
My leadership style is collaborative and visionary, always focused on uplifting others and creating pathways for collective healing.
